what is Android (General info)?

Android is an operating system for mobile devices such as cellular phones, tablet computers and netbooks. Android was developed by Google and based upon the Linux kernel and GNU software. It was initially developed by Android Inc. (a firm later purchased by Google) and lately by the Open Handset Alliance.

According to NPD Group, unit sales for Android OS smartphones ranked second among all smartphone OS handsets sold in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2010. BlackBerry OS and iOS ranked first and third respectively. A Nielsen report for the same quarter placed Android in fourth place with 9% of the market.
Android has a large community of developers writing apps that extend the functionality of the devices. There are currently over 90,000 apps available for Android, which makes it the second most popular mobile development target. Developers write managed code in the Java language, controlling the device via Google-developed Java libraries.

The unveiling of the Android distribution on 5 November 2007 was announced with the founding of the Open Handset Alliance, a consortium of 71 hardware, software, and telecom companies devoted to advancing open standards for mobile devices. Google released most of the Android code under the Apache License, a free software and open source license.

The Android operating system software stack consists of Java applications running on a Java based object oriented application framework on top of Java core libraries running on a Dalvik virtual machine featuring JIT compilation. Libraries written in C include the surface manager, OpenCore media framework, SQLite relational database management system, OpenGL ES 2.0 3D graphics API, WebKit layout engine, SGL graphics engine, SSL, and Bionic libc. The Android operating system consists of 12 million lines of code including 3 million lines of XML, 2.8 million lines of C, 2.1 million lines of Java, and 1.75 million lines of C++.

I know my mobile number!... But what is this IMEI Number??

Since terrorist activities are increasing day by day govt. and telecom companies are forcing people to check weather they have proper IMEI number or not.
Many people ask me that we know our mobile number but what is this IMEI number?? So, this post helps you to know it.

IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity. It's a number which is usually unique and use to identify GSM, WCDMA, iDEN and as well as some satellite phones.

The IMEI number is used by the GSM network to identify valid devices and therefore can be used for stopping a stolen phone from accessing the network in that country. For example, if a mobile phone is stolen, the owner can call his or her network provider and instruct them to "ban" the phone using its IMEI number. This renders the phone useless in that country, whether or not the phone's SIM is changed. However, the phone can be used abroad.
Unlike the Electronic Serial Number or MEID of CDMA and other wireless networks, the IMEI is only used for identifying the device, and has no permanent or semi-permanent relation to the subscriber. Instead, the subscriber is identified by transmission of an IMSI number, which is stored on a SIM card that can (in theory) be transferred to any handset. However, many network and security features are enabled by knowing the current device being used by a subscriber.

The Structure of an IMEI Number:

IMEI numbers either come in a 17 digit or 15 digit sequences of numbers. The IMEI format currently utilized is AA-BBBBBB-CCCCCC-D:
  • AA: These two digits are for the Reporting Body Identifier, indicating the GSMA approved group that allocated the TAC (Type Allocation Code).
  • BBBBBB: The remainder of the TAC
  • CCCCCC: Serial sequence of the Model
  • D: Luhn check digit of the entire model or 0 (This is an algorithm that validates the ID number)

Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR):

If a mobile handset is lost or stolen, the owner of the device can contact the CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) which will blacklist the device in all currently operating switches. This makes the lost or stolen handset unusable. The action of blacklisting stolen mobile handsets is seen as a deterrent to crime. It is possible, however, to change an IMEI with special tools and there are certain mobile networks that do not automatically blacklist handsets registered with the CEIR. Current statistics state that approximately ten percent of IMEI's in use today are not unique or have been reprogrammed (hacked).

How to find my IMEI Number?:

It is usually found printed inside the battery compartment of the phone. It can also be displayed on the screen of the phone by entering *#06# into the keypad on most phones.

Sony Xperia X10 : u will love this...!!

Its official, Sony Ericsson has finally announced XPERIA X10, which was earlier speculated to be called Xperia X3 or Rachael. This leap of change in the name (from X3 to X10) might be because of the fact that the company didn’t wanted to make the users confused, however it seems that the facts and features that we were hearing about the phone in different names, remain the same. So, it seems like Sony Ericsson only got the new name with XPERIA X10 other than that the things that lie under the hood is going to be same as expected earlier. So, with X10 we have capacitive display of 4 inches, 8.1 mega pixel camera with LED flash, 1GHz Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm and proprietary Android UI. The wait was long, but the outcome is worth it and finally we can expect that X10 will appear in the market by the first half of 2010.

We were really impressed with the capability of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 when we saw the browsing capability of the phone with WebKit-based default Android browser and Google maps. High speed internet access made us crave for more. The web pages were opening very fast and accurately and the 3G connectivity was also very satisfactory. Scrolling down the pages was super smooth and the experience was just awesome. Ditto can be said about the Google Maps™ that was highly receptive and fairly snappy. Snapdragon down the line really makes a difference.

In a device of such standard, you expect gorgeous looks and this model lives perfectly on your expectations. The slopes and curves of the handset are irresistible and provide an uncomplicated appearance. The overall measurement of the phone is 119 x 63 x 13 mm and it weighs 135 grams. The 4.0 inches capacitive touch screen displays 262k colors with the resolution of 854 x 480 pixels. Moreover, the surface of the screen is scratch resistant and it includes Accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate. The design of the phone is immensely attractive and the most of its frontal portion is the screen itself. There is no real keyboard as the touch screen functionality handles all the usages and applications.

From a mobile phone of this caliber, it is essential that it comes with a solid memory back up. The call records and the phone book entries are practically unlimited. The internal storage capacity of the handset is 1 GB and it itself is enough to store quite a lot of applications in the phone. The users who need more memory backup, they will love to hear that Xperia X10 also comes with microSD™ (TransFlash) and it can expand the memory up to massive 16 GB memory. So, all those applications that acquire bigger memory space can now be loaded in the phone. Definitely a boon for the music lovers and gaming enthusiasts!

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 supports quad band GSM network- 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 and triband HSDPA network- 900 / 1900 / 2100. High speed data transfer is assured with Class 10 (4+1/3+2 slots) GPRS and Class 10 EDGE. In addition to that, WLAN, Bluetooth® and USB options also makes way to smooth data transfer facilities. 3G signal is very powerful with the handset and hence internet accessibility can be done in super fast speed. It gives great browsing experience over the phone and the overall impact is very smooth.

One of the most prominent highlights of mobile phones is the camera. Every single handset these days are featuring high end cameras and that increases the expectation from XPERIA X10. The expectation is high not just because of the stature of the mobile phone but also because of the fact that it is a Sony Ericsson product. Xperia X10 brings in an 8.1 mega pixel snapper that is capable of clicking awesome shots. The photos are excellent in the normal light conditions, but they are equally good even when the lights are low. Thanks to the LED flash and auto focus feature that the snapper is loaded with. The image resolution is 3264x2448 pixels and it brings on other vital features such as touch focus, geo-tagging, image stabilization, face and smile detection.

Apart from imaging, music and video features also make a mobile phone impressive. There are numerous users that buy mobile phones to listen high quality music or enjoy high resolution videos. The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 comes with a music player that can play music files of different formats such as MP3/ e-AAC+/ WMA/ RA. The video player is capable of playing MP4/ H.263/ H.264/ WMV file formats.
The hands-on experience of Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 was no less than a treat and this review was based on that. It can be said that Sony Ericsson has raised the bar and from here the expectation will only get bigger from the company.

    3G Technology?

Everyone are happy that 3G services are getting launch in India but thing is many of them don't know what actually is this 3G technology. So this is my endeavor to tell you some basics about this 3G technology.

So what exactly this 3G means?:

3G means third generation of wireless technology which is often use with mobile or handset and it is a mean to connect mobile or handset with internet.
It provides some advantages over previous generation as high transmission, advance multimedia access and global roaming.

    Misunderstandings:

People get confused between GPRS and 3G. If your mobile is 3G supporter then you can enjoy this 3G service. If you have GPRS handset then it doesn't mean that you are accessible to 3G. Your handset should specifically mention that you can use 3G technology.
Other thing is your mobile operator also able to provide 3G technology otherwise you cannot use on normal SIM cards that we use.

    Advantages:

    • IPTV support (TV through mobile).
    • Video conferencing.
    • High data speed.
    • Easy audio and video steaming.
    • Web and WAP browsing at higher speed.
Also I would like to tell you about its speed that, if you want to download one mp3 song with this technology then you just need near about 15 sec.

    How's That??
If you have any query, please feel free to ask.

Uninor’s ‘24X7 Badalta Discount Plan (DP)’

Uninor is is a mobile operator which comes to India with a bang few weeks ago. This uninor is a tie up between 6th largest mobile communication group Telenor and 2nd largest real estate company in India which is Unitech Ltd.

    What exactly is there plan?

Uninor launches this ‘24X7 Badalta Discount Plan (DP)’ where DP stands for dynamic pricing. This is the first mobile operator which launches such concept of dynamic pricing in India.

Under this plan, you will get the discounts on call rates which varies from 5%  to 60%. These discounts are based on traffic on the network. The discounts will change with location and time, with each cellphone tower broadcasting a different discount. The discount on one place will change on an hourly basis. As a starter kit you have to first make recharge of Rs.49/- which will give you lifetime validity.

This simply means you will have to pay maximum 50 paisa per minute to minimum 20 paisa per minute from Uninor-to-Uninor or Uninor-to-any other operator for local call.At present, Uninor services are available in the eight circles of UP (West), UP (East), Bihar, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala , Andhra Pradesh and now in Maharashtra.

“With the Dynamic Pricing concept, customers will get much more involved in the way they use our service. It will make an otherwise routine activity exciting – every single time a customer picks up a phone to make a call,” said Stein-Erik Vellan, Managing Director, Uninor.
